The
lymph system is intimately connected with the immune system and is
essential to maintaining the body’s defence and resistance to disease.
When the lymph system is in good working order we enjoy energy,
good health and high levels of immunity.
Unlike
blood flow which is circulated by the heart, the lymph system does not
have its own pump and relies on muscle action to move it around.
The actual movement of lymph is very slow, with only about 3
litres entering the bloodstream every 24 hours - about the same amount
as the fluid lost to the tissue spaces from the bloodstream in the same
period.
Lymphatic
Drainage Massage can be used to stimulate the immune system, help the
body to reduce toxin overload and reduce swelling by stimulating the
lymph flow. A series
of lymphatic massages will help restore the body’s ability to manage
the function of the lymph system efficiently, particularly when assisted
by appropriate diet and regular exercise.
